Former TMC minister Partha Chatterjee, arrested in SSC scam, spent his first day in jail reading books for several hours.
Former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee spent his first day in the prison reading books for several hours, sources told India Today. The former heavyweight Trinamool Congress (TMC) minister was given four blankets inside the jail on Friday night, just like common prisoners, sources said.
A special court in Kolkata on Friday sent former education minister of West Bengal Partha Chatterjee and his aide Arpita Mukherjee to 14 days judicial custody in the Service Commission appointments scam case.
Partha Chatterjee is lodged in the 'Poila Baish' block of the Presidency correctional home in Kolkata, sources told India Today. Partha Chatterjee was brought to the Presidency correctional home in a prison van from the Bankshal court on Friday evening.
"Partha Chatterjee has been kept inside the jail like other common prisoners. He is not getting any special facility inside jail. Four blankets were given to him inside the jail on Friday night. He was also served roti, dal and vegetables for dinner. Since he was tired due to the stress, he fell asleep early," sources told India Today.
According to sources, there are a total of 22 cells in this block and the former TMC minister is currently lodged in cell number 2.

"On Saturday morning, Partha Chatterjee was served tea without sugar and biscuits. The minister was served rice, dal and vegetables for lunch at 12.30 pm today. He has not been given any special status and is also using the common toilet inside the jail," sources added.
