Partha Chatterjee's lawyer Sukanya Bhattacharya said that the former West Bengal minister doesn't want to resign from the post of MLA. Partha Chatterjee and his aide Arpita Mukherjee were sent to 14 days in judicial custody in SSC scam case.

Former TMC Minister Partha Chhaterjee claimed he doesn't want to resign from the post of Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), his lawyer Sukanya Bhattacharya said on Saturday. Partha Chatterjee is currently lodged in jail in connection with alleged financial irregularities in a teachers' recruitment scam.

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Partha Chatterjee's lawyer Sukanya Bhattacharya said, "When I met former minister Partha Chatterjee in jail today, he claimed he doesn't want to resign from the post of MLA. Rather, he wants to prove himself innocent and come out of jail."

On Friday, during the court hearing, his advocate had told the court, "Partha is an ordinary man and he is 72 years old. He has already lost the ministerial post. Now, he is willing to resign from the post of MLA also."

However, on Saturday, Partha Chatterjee told his lawyer that he never wanted to resign from the post of MLA.

"He has not been given special prisoner status and he was given the floor to sleep. He could not even sleep the entire night. Today, he was given rice and dal only for lunch," his lawyer said after meeting Partha Chatterjee who is lodged in the Presidency correctional home.

"He even demanded some of his favourite books to spend time in jail. He wants to remain in the party and trust his party and party supremo,"his lawyer Sukanya Bhattacharya told India today.
