Bengal govt challenges HC order of CBI probe in Congress councillor Tapan Kandu’s murder case

The Bengal government has filed a petition challenging the CBI probe ordered by the Calcutta High Court into the murder of Congress councillor Tapan Kandu.
The Bengal government has filed a petition against the Calcutta High Court's order for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the murder case of congress councillor Tapan Kandu. A petition has been filed before the division bench of the Calcutta High Court challenging the verdict of the single bench.
The CBI has also submitted the investigation status report to Calcutta High Court in a sealed envelope. The report contains the investigation done by CBI.
On Monday, the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI probe into Congress councillor Tapan Kandu's murder case. The court also directed the Jhalda police to hand over all case-related documents.
While delivering the verdict, the HC said, "There is a need to instil faith in the public when a crime is involved."
Some bike-borne goons allegedly shot and injured Tapan when he had gone for a walk near his residence. He later succumbed to his injury while undergoing treatment. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to probe the case.
Tapan's wife demanded a CBI probe and filed a petition last week in the Calcutta High Court.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Tapan Kandu's brother Naren Kandu was arrested on charges of hiring professional killers for the murder. According to the police, the murder was a fallout of a property dispute.
