Ajay Devgn and Kichcha Sudeep's Twitter war turned out to be the talking point on social media on April 27. In this week's Throwback Thursday, let us take a look back at five stars who spoke against Hindi imposition in the past.

Ajay Devgn and Kichcha Sudeep made headlines yesterday, April 27, when the former took offense to the Naan Ee actor's 'Hindi is not our national language' remark. The Bollywood actor questioned Sudeep, asking him why he was dubbing his films in Hindi. Kichcha Sudeep tore him apart, asking if he would be able to read his post had he tweeted in Kannada. Ajay Devgn is being trolled for his tweet.

However, looking back, this is not the first time that a celebrity from the South has spoken about language war, especially Hindi imposition. In this week's Throwback Thursday, let us take a look at five celebrities who have raised their voice against Hindi imposition.

Back in 2019, Amit Shah expressed his interest in making Hindi a unifying language for the country. His comments met with massive outrage from Southern states, including celebrities like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth.

Rajinikanth said, "Hindi language should not be imposed. Not just Tamil Nadu, none of the southern states will accept Hindi imposition. Not just Hindi, no language should be imposed on the country. However, forcing a language is not acceptable. Southern states will not accept Hindi imposition. Even some northern states will not accept Hindi Imposition."

In 2022, Home Minister Amit Shah once again stirred up controversy when he said that Hindi should be accepted as the National Language of India. AR Rahman was one among the first celebrities to react to this remark.

He took to Twitter to share an illustration of "Thamizhanangu" (Goddess Tamil). It is a word from Tamizh Thaai Vaazhthu, written by Manonmaniam. The illustration also had Bharathidasan's famous line, which read, "Beloved Tamil is the root of our existence."

Later that week, AR Rahman said that this is a time for celebrating differences and diversity. He went ahead and said that Tamil is a connecting language.
