
Bee swarm kills umpire during cricket match in Kanpur

When the bees attacked, people ran for safety and cover, but 65-year-old Manik Gupta sustained serious injuries; he was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.
A cricket umpire in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur died after a swarm of bees suddenly attacked him and several others at the ground during a match. Many people were injured in the incident and have been hospitalised.
The 65-year-old victim, Manik Gupta, who was associated with the Kanpur Cricket Association, was umpiring an under-13 cricket match at a stadium when the attack happened.
Amid the panic, players and spectators ran for safety. However, Gupta sustained serious injuries. He was initially rushed to a local hospital, but due to his critical condition, he was later shifted to an advanced medical facility, where doctors declared him dead.
Another umpire, Jagdish Sharma, was also injured in the incident but is said to be out of danger, similar to several others who sustained injuries.
Gupta had been associated with the Kanpur Cricket Association for nearly 30 years and had officiated in many notable regional matches.
In an eerily similar incident in 2019, a one-day match between India A and England Lions in Thiruvananthapuram had to be halted after bees attacked people at the stadium. Although many were stung, no fatalities were reported in that case.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
