BDA revamps e-auction communication with the help of citizen collective

BDA enhances its e-auction platform with a user-friendly interface, improving clarity and accessibility for property bidders in Bengaluru.
No more sifting through dense clutters of text for information on sites being auctioned by Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA). The government agency has revamped its e-auction communication with the help of Zen Citizen, a citizens’ collective, to make the information clearer, seamless and transparent.
The BDA’s property e-auction platform now features an interactive interface with a map view, filters, and a search option. Information has been reorganised, making key details easy to find. The new interface is also optimised for mobile viewing.
The communications from the BDA on auction of sites have been conventionally publicised in newspapers and on the BDA website and social media handles. Information-heavy multi-page PDF formats were used on all channels, often leaving a viewer confused and overwhelmed.
“We learned that the poor UI in auction communication is often by design to discourage broader participation and limit the auction to a close insider circle,” said Vineeta K., founder, Zen Collective.
The team reached out to the BDA, and in early January 2026, discussions on revamping the platform began. Priti Pandurangan, a volunteer with the Zen Citizen, worked on designing and developing the module and delivered it by January 24.
Initially hosted on the Zen Citizen website, the pages were integrated to the BDA website by February 5 and can now be viewed on eauctions.bdakarnataka.in.
