Though public sector bank (PSB) unions called for a two-day nationwide strike in protest against privatisation, banks remained closed for four days through the weekend till Tuesday. He said if the government's attitude remained the same, the protest could continue indefinitely. According to a market survey conducted by India Today, the claims made by banks to keep ATMs well stocked during the strike fell flat. ATMs were out of cash on Monday night and Tuesday morning. ATMs that were dispensing cash ran out of it by afternoon.
As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
