
Bank officials left confused after ATMs robbed with no sign of tampering in Chennai

Multiple SBI ATMs in Chennai have been robbed. However, bank officials are confused because none of the ATMs showed signs of tampering and no alerts were raised.
The Greater Chennai Police received multiple complaints that ATMs of State Bank of India were robbed at Velachery, Tharamani, Valasaravakkam and Ramapuram in Chennai. However, the ATMs showed no signs of tampering and no robbery alerts were raised, leaving bank officials and the police confused. The complaints were made when bank officials, during a routine tally, discovered that the cash deposited and cash withdrawn from the ATMs did not match up. The difference was in lakhs. The police launched an investigation, especially to understand how no alarm had been raised. They found that the common factor between all the SBI cash deposit machines which were targeted have been manufactured by a Japanese firm.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
