Tamil Nadu government excludes educational institutions from 10% entertainment tax on concerts, dramas, and shows. Legislators express concerns.
The Tamil Nadu government informed the Assembly on Tuesday that the Bill to introduce a 10% entertainment tax on concerts, dramas and shows in institutions, would not be applicable to educational institutions.
Minister K.N. Nehru said that the tax was not aimed at affecting students in educational institutions. He was responding to concerns raised by legislators over the Bill. The Bill was eventually adopted by the House following a voice vote.
AIADMK’s Agri S.S. Krishnamurthy, PMK’s G.K. Mani, CPI (M)‘s V.P. Nagaimaali and Panruti MLA T. Velmurugan opposed imposing the entertainment tax on educational institutions and urged the State government to reconsider it.
