Assault charge against NTI president stayed
CBC
The Crown has stayed an assault charge against Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. president Jeremy Tunraluk.
A stay of proceedings means the Crown is choosing not to proceed with prosecution. The Crown can reactivate charges later.
Tunraluk was not present at the Nunavut Court of Justice for Thursday's brief hearing. His lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Iqaluit RCMP charged Tunraluk, 39, with assault causing bodily harm in December.
At the time, NTI said Tunraluk went on voluntary unpaid leave. Vice-president Paul Irngaut has been serving as acting president since Tunraluk's arrest.
