The Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government released more than 1,200 prisoners on the occasion of Rajasthan Diwas on Tuesday.
The Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government released more than 1,200 prisoners, serving sentences in various jails of the state, on the occasion of Rajasthan Diwas on Tuesday. The prisoners who were released included the ones who had completed most of their sentences with good conduct and those who were suffering from serious ailments or were of advanced age. Among ailing prisoners, those suffering from cancer, AIDS and leprosy were eligible for premature release, the Rajasthan government said in a statement.
As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
