The Aam Admi Party inaugurated a state office in Kolkata on Sunday. Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party started thinking of strengthening the organisation in Bengal after the party came to power in Punjab earlier this year.
Although there was no state office so far, there are party offices in various districts of Bengal. There are also permanent offices in districts like Durgapur, Medinipur, Cooch Behar.
Sanjay Basu, who is Aam Admi Party in charge of Bengal, said even though the permanent address of the party has been set up in Kolkata, Arvind Kejriwal is not eying the state of Bengal right now.
He said, "AAP will go to every state one by one. Here in Bengal, we have been working hard in the districts since 2020. We don’t have any target for Bengal as of now. After Punjab, our focus is Gujarat. The people of Bengal do respect us. We believe they have started considering us as ‘Bhadralok’."
Basu said they are eyeing Gujarat assembly election as of now. The party has decided to take one state at a time.
For the state office in Kolkata, AAP rented three floors of a multistoried building in a residential area of Haltu.
Speaking to India Today, AAP leader Sanjay Basu said that the party has no plan to contest the upcoming Panchyat election which is scheduled to held next year. He stated, "We are working on increasing the presence of our party in Panchayat level. But it will take time to fight an election."
