Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap responded to his name appearing in records related to Jeffrey Epstein and discussed the 2021 Income Tax raid at his residence in 2021 in a recent interaction.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has responded to the recent controversy regarding his name being mentioned in documents associated with convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In a recent interview, Kashyap emphasised that the reference does not concern him and provided context for the Income Tax raid at his residence in 2021.
Kashyap’s comments come after the United States Department of Justice released a list that included his name among roughly 300 political, business, and cultural figures connected in some capacity to Epstein's records. Kashyap dismissed the implications, stating that the mention was inconsequential to him.
During an episode of Sit with Hitlist, the director said, “In a random mail We get invitations from Harvard, Yale, everywhere. I don't know. I have never been to Beijing. I have been to Shanghai in China once before 2014. I played recce in Bombay.” He went on to joke that he sometimes thinks to himself, “Wow! What a company I have.”
When asked about the 2021 Income Tax raid at his residence, Kashyap said it was largely related to his former production banner, Phantom Films.
“It had more to do with Phantom Films, because we got out and we split, and the valuation. What was there? What wasn't there? Who has it? Who doesn't have it? All that kind of thing happened,” Anurag said.
In 2018, Vikramaditya Motwane, Anurag Kashyap, Madhu Mantena and Vikas Bahl dissolved their production banner Phantom Films after seven years of partnership marked by both collaborations and disagreements. Founded in 2011, the company backed several notable Bollywood films, including Queen, Masaan, Lootera, and Udta Punjab.
