Andaman and Nicobar Islands brace for Cyclone Asani | All you need to know

As the year's first cyclone, Asani, is approaching towards the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, here is all you need to know about the preparations and advisories by the administration.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration is making necessary arrangements as Cyclone Asani is likely to approach the shores. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast that a well marked low pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea persists over the same region. It is likely to move nearly northwards along and off the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and will intensify into a depression by the morning of March 20 and into a cyclonic storm on March 21.
IMD PREDICTION
As per IMD prediction, on March 20, Andaman Islands would witness light to moderate rainfall or thundershower at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and isolated extremely heavy rainfall while the Nicobar islands will withness isolated heavy rainfall over.

“On March 21, light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorms in most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and isolated extremely heavy rainfall are very likely over the Andaman Islands. Light to moderate rainfall at a few places is likely over the Nicobar Islands”, said the IMD.
