Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Sunday announced that a new round of US-brokered trilateral talks involving Ukraine and Russia will take place on February 4 and 5 in Abu Dhabi, saying Kyiv is ready for a “substantive discussion.”
“Our negotiating team has just delivered a report. The dates for the next trilateral meetings have been set – February 4 and 5 in Abu Dhabi,” Zelenskiy wrote on X. “Ukraine is ready for a substantive discussion, and we are interested in ensuring that the outcome brings us closer to a real and dignified end to the war.”
Ukrainian, Russian and US envoys earlier met on January 24 in the United Arab Emirates, marking the first known instance in which officials from the Trump administration sat down with representatives from both countries as Washington pushes for momentum toward ending Moscow’s nearly four-year-old war in Ukraine.
The talks are taking place in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. While Russian and Ukrainian representatives have met separately in recent months, this is believed to be the first time US envoys are participating alongside both sides.
