AIADMK urges PM Modi for Puducherry's Statehood, loan waiver, and support for textile mills and airport development.
Puducherry secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) A. Anbalagan has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding Statehood for Puducherry.
The memorandum was handed over to Mr. Modi during his visit to Puducherry on Sunday. It said the Legislative Assembly had passed several resolutions demanding Statehood for Puducherry. But the Central government has not considered the demand.
The party also urged the Centre to waive Puducherry’s legacy loan and provide assistance to revive the defunct textile mills. The Centre should help in the development of the airport. The expanded airport should be named as ‘Puratchi Thalaivar MGR Airport’, the memorandum said.
“The Prime Minister has been showing great affection for Tamil people and our language. Under the Prime Minister’s leadership, the U.T. is making rapid progress. If the demands of Puducherry are met, the territory could achieve more progress,” he said.
