Students of BJ Medical College and Civil Hospital on Sunday threatened to boycott Out Patient Department (OPD) duties from February 1, adding that they will be providing services only to emergency patients and those admitted to Covid wards.
Intensifying the protest against Dr Kamlesh Upadhyay, professor and head of the department (HOD) of medicine for alleged ‘ill treatment’ of final-year MBBS students, students of BJ Medical College and Civil Hospital on Sunday threatened to boycott Out Patient Department (OPD) duties from February 1, adding that they will be providing services only to emergency patients and those admitted to Covid wards.
According to a report published in the Times of India (TOI), it has been 19 days since the students are protesting, which intensified after Dr Upadhyay allegedly threatened to “fail students if protests are not withdrawn.”
Notably, the MBBS students are also protesting against the state-appointed two-member committee investigating the matter, alleging bias, adding that Dr Upadhyay is treating a close family member of the senior IAS officer in the health department, hence influencing the probe.
As per reports by TOI, the Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) also approached the anti-ragging committee of the college demanding action against Dr Upadhyay.
Meanwhile, JDA President Oman Prajapati said, “Dr Upadhyay had been adamant in not sending the internal marks of Undergraduate students to Gujarat University (GU) and it was after a string of sit-out protests that the department had sent the marks on January 24. Why is Dr Upadhayay playing with our careers?”

India's original Dhurandhar, Ravindra Kaushik, rose from acting at college theatres, to infiltrating the Pakistan Army as a RAW Agent. He provided critical intelligence on Pakistani troop movements and the country's nuclear programme, but died a lonely death after his betrayal and subsequent capture by the ISI.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said.
