Muslim organisation Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind passed a resolution against the proposal to implement Uniform Civil Code in India at its two-day conference in UP's Deoband.
Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind passed a resolution against the proposed Uniform Civil Code at its meeting in Uttar Pradesh's Deoband on Sunday. The Muslim organisation said the Uniform Civil Code would prevent observance of personal law and, thus, is against the guarantees given in the Indian Constitution.
"This ignores the true spirit of the Constitution," the resolution said. "No Muslim accepts interference in Islamic law. If any government makes the mistake of implementing UCC, Muslims will not accept this injustice and will be forced to take all measures against it while staying within constitutional limits."
The Uniform Civil Code is a proposal to formulate personal laws which apply to all citizens equally regardless of their religion, gender and so on. The BJP-led government at the Centre and in the states has promised to implement the same.
