Nehal Modi, who is a Belgian national, according to CBI, has been living in United States. The agency got to know about him after a case of fraud was registered by the US court. Following this information, the process of moving through proper channels to formally seek his extradition has been initiated. In 2019, the Interpol had also issued a red corner notice against Nehal. On Friday, the CBI submitted an affidavit before a special Mumbai court of an extradition request by the Government of India to be made to the US government.
As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
