Does KGF: Chapter 2's Rs 1000 crore haul make Yash the next poster boy of Kannada cinema? Let us delve deep into how Yash could be the next superstar of Sandalwood.
Yash's story of becoming an actor in the Kannada film industry is nothing short of a fairytale. His father was a bus driver, while his mother was a housewife. Right from a young age, Yash didn't want to be an actor. He wanted to be a star. He was quite clear in what he wanted to achieve and ran towards his dream.
In an interview with IndiaToday.in, Yash said, "I had no other career plans apart from acting. In fact, I always wanted to be an actor, and to be precise, a star. It's not even about acting. In class, when they asked me who do you want to become when you grow up, I'd say I will be a superstar. Everyone would say astronaut and all, and I used to say 'hero'. So, everybody used to laugh. But, I believed that one day, main hero ban jaunga (I'll be a film hero)."
Yash ran away from his home with just Rs 300 in his pocket. He joined a theatre group as a backup actor and climbed up the ladder.
During his theatre days, Yash was so keen on learning the artform. Though he initially worked backstage, he eventually started practising for other roles. Initially, he was a backup actor. "If some actor was ill or not available, I used to perform his part. That's how it started. And then I started getting big roles," he revealed.
In 2004, Yash got his first big break. He made his television debut with the serial, Uttarayana. The next year, he played one of the lead roles in Nanda Gokula, where he shared screen space with his now-wife Radhika Pandit. Slowly, Yash was becoming a popular face on television. He was offered roles in seven films during this time.
