Actor Vijay’s fans, cadre give anxious moments to police at Madurai Airport

A huge crowd of actor Vijay’s fans and his party cadre that gathered at Madurai Airport to welcome the actor-turned-politician on kept Madurai City Police on their toes since Friday morning.

For the arrival of the actor on a chartered flight in the evening, some 300 fans had gathered as early as 7 a.m. outside the arrival gate in the airport.

“We had no prior intimation about the actor’s arrival at Madurai. Neither, the fans had any details about the actor’s programme,” a senior police officer said.

Besides, the local party functionaries could not give any proper details to the police about the reception to be accorded to the actor at the airport.

For any large gathering in public places or protest, procession or function of any party or organisation, the organisers keep in touch with the police much in advance to help the police make all security arrangements.

“We usually maintain a liasion with the organisers to know about the size and the profile of the crowd. We collect details like how they would come and from where to make the arrangements accordingly,” he added.

“The party functionaries were not cooperating claiming that they too did not have any official communication on the actor’s programme,” another officer said.
