A bridal lehenga like no other, and top fashion picks from Ambani family wedding
India Today
Industrialist Mukesh Ambani's nephew Vikram Salgaocar got married to Shweana Poy Raiturcar in a grand Mumbai wedding. The event was full of noteworthy fashion moments.
In what can only be described as a breathtaking work of art worthy of a museum, jewellery designer Shweana Poy Raiturcar married Vikram Salgaocar, nephew of Mukesh Ambani, in a lehenga like no other. Vikram Salgaocar is the son of Mukesh Ambani’s sister Dipti Salgaocar.
Shweana and Vikram got married in a grand wedding ceremony on February 12 in Mumbai. The Ambani family was in full attendance, with Nita Ambani, Radhika Merchant, Isha Ambani and Shloka Mehta decked up in ethereal ethnic ensembles.
The bride, Shweana, was, of course, the star of the evening, dressed in a custom-made, no-fabric lehenga designed by Monica Shah of the label Jade by MK. Bride Shweana Poy Raiturcar poses in a heavily-embellished, no-fabric lehenga from the label Jade by MK, for her wedding with Vikram Salgaocar.
The breathtaking creation, doused in sparkling crystals and a metallic sheen that celebrates India’s rich craftsmanship, was constructed not on cloth but purely through craft. It took 15,000 hours to transform into this majestic bridal ensemble.
Monica Shah revived the rare Mughal-era kasab technique for this lehenga, using metallic thread as both the structure and the surface — without any fabric base underneath. Rose gold, gold and antique gold threads were carefully woven together to create a glowing, net-like pattern that moves beautifully with the body.
The lehenga looks like molten metal as it flows, yet holds its shape with the strength of armour - almost like a piece of jewellery transformed into clothing. Elements like raffia weaving, subtle teal highlights and Swarovski crystals were also roped in to build this masterpiece. A candid photo of the couple from the wedding.
