Karnataka revenue minister R Ashoka announced on Tuesday that 83 taluks in the state have officially been declared ‘flood-affected’ after recent bouts of rainfall and flooding in the state.

Speaking to the media, he said, "Earlier, we had declared 61 taluks as flood-affected. However, following the recent rainfall and flood situation, we have added 22 taluks to the list. This includes Belagavi, Chikkamagaluru, Hubballi city, Kadur, Davanagere, Dandeli, Alur, Lakshmeshwar, Tarikere, Mundagod, Supa, Hubballi, Bhadravati, Channagiri, Annigeri, Babaleshwar, Nidagundi, Kolhar, Muddebihal, Harapanahalli, Hosanagar and Mudigere. With the latest additions, there are now 83 taluks in Karnataka that have been declared flood-hit."
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
