60 new COVID-19 cases reported in Waterloo region since Friday

There were 60 new COVID-19 cases reported in Waterloo region over the weekend.

Broken down by day, there were:

There were 235 active cases in the region. There were seven people in the region's three hospitals infectious with the virus. There were also four people in the intensive care unit, although the region's dashboard notes people in ICU may no longer be infectious with the virus.

There were no new deaths reported Monday. There have been 307 COVID-related deaths in Waterloo region since March 2020.

The region has not yet identified a case of the new variant of concern, B11529 dubbed omicron.

The region's dashboard shows there are 262 cases where a mutation has been detected, but further testing is required to determine which variant of the virus is involved. There have been cases of omicron detected in Ottawa and Hamilton.

The region's vaccination dashboard showed 10 per cent of children aged five to 11 received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine since the region began administering the vaccine on Friday. The region reported 4,363 doses were administered as of Sunday.

The region had received 20,000 doses last week.

The dashboard reports 74.99 per cent of the entire population of the region has received both doses of the vaccine. There is still no vaccine available to children aged four and younger.
