
5,000 vehicles in 24 years: ‘India’s biggest car thief’ lands in Delhi Police net

Anil Chauhan started stealing vehicles in 1998 and since then, he has stolen over 5000 cars. The car thief was arrested by Delhi Police.
Delhi Police arrested "India's biggest car thief" Anil Chauhan, who has been accused of stealing over 5,000 cars from across the country.
Anil Chauhan (52) is the kingpin of the car thief gang. As many as 180 cases are registered against him.
During the arrest, the police recovered six country-made pistols along with seven live cartridges, one stolen motorcycle, and one stolen care from the accused.
Anil Chauhan, a resident of Khanpur Extention who hails from Tejpur, Assam, had studied up to Class 12. He started stealing vehicles in 1998 and has stolen over 5000 vehicles from various parts of India.

Anil has been arrested by the police various times in the past and been sent behind the bars. He was convicted for five years in a criminal case of Nizamuddin police station. He has been previously involved in 180 criminal cases.
Anil Chauhan was a Class-I contractor in Assam government. Later, the Enforcement Directorate raided his place and all his property was seized. Thereafter, the bank auctioned all his property and he again started committing thefts.
