1988 road rage case: How Sidhu's first night went in jail

The SC sentenced Navjot Singh Sidhu to one-year imprisonment in the 1988 road rage case on Thursday. After a medical check-up, Sidhu was sent to Patiala jail on Friday.
Former Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu surrendered before the Patiala Court on Friday and has now become prisoner number 241383 in Patiala jail.
The Supreme Court sentenced Sidhu to one-year in jail in a 1988 road rage case on Thursday. After surrendering, Sidhu was sent for a medical examination, following which he was forwarded to jail.
After going inside the jail, Sidhu was allotted a prisoner number and shifted to barrack number 10, where, according to sources, he would be sharing the cell with eight prisoners serving murder sentences. In the barracks, Sidhu will be sleeping on a bed made of cement, said sources.
According to sources, Sidhu was given dal and roti yesterday at 7.15 pm as per the jail manual. However, he denied it, citing ill health. He only ate salad and some fruit.
Sidhu has asked for a special diet as he is allergic to wheat and has a liver problem, Sidhu's media advisor Surinder Dalla said, adding that he has not been eating roti for a long time. That's why he has asked for a special diet. "He also gave information about the same during the medical examination yesterday," Surinder said.
