
Zika virus cluster identified in Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Health Minister Veena George

A new cluster of Zika virus has been identified in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said. She said steps were being taken to exterminate mosquitoes in the area to prevent its spread to other places.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Wednesday said a cluster of Zika virus has been identified within a three-kilometer radius of Anayara in Thiruvananthapuram. At a special review meeting convened on Wednesday, the health minister said the state government was taking steps for the extermination of mosquitoes such as fogging in the area to prevent its spread to other places. A control room has been set up at the district medical office in the wake of the Zika virus outbreak in Thiruvananthapuram, she said.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
