Former Minister Ambati Rambabu held in police custody for 19 hours after allegedly making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Naidu.
Former Minister and YSR Congress Party leader Ambati Rambabu, who was picked up by the Guntur police late on Saturday night, was kept at the Nallapadu police station till Sunday evening. The police arrested Mr. Rambabu around 11 p.m. on Saturday from his residence, alleging that he made derogatory remarks against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and disrupted police duties.
Angered by the comments allegedly made by the former Minister, TDP leaders and activists cordoned off Mr. Rambabu’s house, pelted stones and damaged flowerpots and window panes, YSR Congress Party leaders alleged. Miscreants also set fire to Mr. Rambabu’s vehicle, burnt his effigies across the State and raised slogans demanding his arrest.
While TDP leaders alleged that Mr. Rambabu used abusive language against Mr. Naidu, YSR Congress Party leaders claimed that the government was behind the attack on his house and accused the police of failing to control the mobs.
