A 36-year-old woman was arrested by the Dundigal police in connection with the murder of an 85-year-old woman at her residence in Church Gagillapur near Dundigal.
According to the police, the accused, identified as P. Kavitha, had earlier worked at the victim’s house for about 15 days and killed the victim to steal gold ornaments. She gained the victim’s trust by supplying toddy.
The case pertains to the murder of Chinnabattini Susheelamma, a resident of Church Gagillapur near Dundigal in Medchal–Malkajgiri district.
The incident was reported on February 2 at around 2.30 p.m. when the elderly woman was alone at her residence. The accused attacked her on the head with a stone, leading to her death. She later fled the scene with a pair of gold earrings and a gold ring, which were subsequently sold at a local jewellery shop.
Based on CCTV footage collected from the crime scene and the jewellery shop, teams involving personnel from Dundigal police, Central Crime Station and Special Operations Team, traced the movements of the accused and arrested her on the night of February 3.
Investigators said CCTV cameras installed by a local resident, Srikar Reddy of Church Gagillapur, played a crucial role in the swift detection of the crime.
