
With an eye on Kerala, Congress keeps Rahul Gandhi away from Bengal campaign

Congress party strategists believe if Rahul Gandhi is seen campaigning with Left leaders in Bengal, it may hurt the party's prospects in Kerala.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi will campaign in West Bengal after polling is held in Kerala, sources have told India Today TV. India Today TV has learnt that the Congress wants to avoid pushing its top leader in the Bengal campaign due to alliance compulsions. Rahul Gandhi recently visited Kerala and hit out at the Left Democratic Front government in the state. Now, if Gandhi campaigns alongside Left party leaders in Bengal before Kerala votes, it might send confusing signals to voters as well cadres, believe party strategists.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
