Will Budget 2026 bring income tax relief? What salaried taxpayers can expect
India Today
Ahead of Budget 2026, one question dominates conversations among salaried taxpayers: will income tax relief finally come? Let's have a look.
With less than two days to go for Union Budget 2026, one question is on the minds of salaried taxpayers: will there be any income tax relief this year? While big tax cuts appear unlikely, experts believe the government may still offer limited and targeted relief, especially under the new tax regime.
With fiscal pressures and rising spending needs, Budget 2026 is expected to focus more on balance and discipline than headline-grabbing announcements.
Tax experts say the government is expected to continue nudging taxpayers towards the new tax regime, rather than making sweeping changes to the old one.
CA (Dr) Suresh Surana said Budget 2026 is likely to build on the gradual shift already underway.
“Budget 2026 is expected to continue the government’s gradual move towards making the new tax regime more attractive and widely adopted,” he said.
However, he does not expect a dramatic overhaul. Instead, the focus may be on fine-tuning.
