Global markets have turned cautious after oil prices jumped sharply following reports of attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and Iraqi waters. According to Iraqi security officials, Iranian explosive-laden boats struck two fuel-oil tankers. The attacks have raised worries about supply disruptions as well as inflation risks.
The situation comes amid the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, which has already created uncertainty in global energy markets. Officials also said oil ports have completely stopped operations due to the attacks.
Efforts by global agencies to cool oil prices have not helped much so far. The International Energy Agency announced plans to release 400 million barrels of oil from its reserves, which would be the largest such move in its history. The United States has also pledged to contribute 172 million barrels starting next week as part of the plan. Despite these steps, markets remain tense.
