WI vs BAN | Bangladesh coach Russell left frustrated with Shakib Al Hasan dismissal: Got out at the wrong time

WI vs BAN | Bangladesh coach Russell left frustrated with Shakib Al Hasan dismissal: Got out at the wrong time

The first T20I match between Bangladesh and West Indies was washed out midway through the first innings of the game. Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan had a good outing.

Bangladesh coach Russell Domingo was left frustrated with veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s dismissal against leg spinner Hayden Walsh junior on Saturday evening. Shakib, who was batting extremely well at number three for Bangladesh had amassed 29 off just 14 balls, before chasing a wide googly, which he edged back behind the stumps. Shakib became the third person in the Bangladesh team to walk back to the stands in the eighth over of the game.

"(Shakib Al Hasan) was positive. But Shakib got out in the wrong time. He knows that. We needed someone to get big scores. We need those in this format. We needed good partnerships, but as soon as partnerships were developing we lost wickets," the coach said in post-match briefing.

The rain curtailed 14-over a side game was called off after the 13th over in the first innings of the match when Bangladesh was 105/8.

"At 45 for two, we got a really good start but then some really poor batting. I'm sure we'll be better in the next game; guys have had a long boat trip, no practice yesterday with the weather being disruptive. I'm sure we'll see an improved performance in the second match," the coach said.

There were silver linings for the Bangladesh side where Nurul Hasan came late in the day to play a rapid cameo for Bangladesh, that took them to a respectable position. Domingo backed the player and said that he could potentially become a star in the future.

"Sohan, I think, can be a really important player for us in this format. He's a powerful guy, big hitter at the back end that gives us a new dimension. But he also took the wrong option with the dismissal. There is learning for him. But it's good to see him in good form, carrying the form from the Test matches," Domingo said.
