The airport authorities stopped Rana Ayyub, who was travelling to London to participate in a programme, from boarding a flight on Tuesday. Here's why the journalist is not allowed to leave the country.
Journalist Rana Ayyub was stopped at the Mumbai Airport from leaving the country on Tuesday, based on a ban imposed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The financial probe agency has issued a lookout circular for Rana Ayyub in connection with a money laundering case.
A lookout notice is issued against someone who is a person of interest in any investigation. Once a lookout notice is issued, the border security authorities (air, road and sea) are informed to stop the person from leaving the country.
Rana Ayyub was going to London to participate in a programme, but the airport authorities stopped her from boarding the flight. The authorities informed the ED officials as they have summoned Rana Ayyub on April 1 for questioning.

The ED officials have issued a lookout notice for Rana Ayyub as she is under investigation in a money laundering case. The probe agency has alleged that she misused the funds donated to her in the name of charity work.
In the same case, the ED had earlier attached Rs 1.77 crore belonging to Rana Ayyub. The case by the financial probe agency is based on an FIR lodged by the Uttar Pradesh Police.
