The BJP moved Calcutta High Court after police refused to allow the party to hold a rally in Uluberia. Gearing up to counter Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s July 21 Martyr’s Day rally, the BJP has decided to hold a political programme ‘Uluberia Cholo’ (March to Uluberia) to condemn the alleged attacks on its party offices in the violence last month that broke out in Howrah.

The BJP lawyer said they were denied permission to hold a political rally in Howrah (Rural) which had been planned to popularise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s works.
The Calcutta High Court asked the petitioner to come up before the court with a reply. The court said if the rally was organised to campaign for the PM's work, what was the significance of picking July 21. “Why not some other day? It can be done any other day too,” the court said.
The HC inquired about the number of attendees. “Which leaders from Delhi will attend that rally?” the court asked after the BJP lawyer claimed that some leaders from Kolkata and Delhi would address the rally.
