Armed with a rifle, a monk Thiruvarur walked into a bank and threatened to loot it in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvarur. Here’s why.
A monk in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvarur walked into a bank with a rifle and threatened to loot it after being refused a loan. He also livestreamed the hold-up on Facebook Live.
The monk, identified as Thirumalai Samy, runs Idi-Minnal (Thunder and Storm) Sangamam in Moolangudi village in Thiruvarur district.
Samy had approached a private sector bank seeking a loan for his daughter, who is pursuing a degree in medicine in China.
Bank officials had allegedly asked for property documents as collateral, to which Samy objected. The monk had questioned why the bank was asking for his property as collateral if the loan amount would be paid back with interest.
In the end, bank officials rejected his loan application. Samy went home, picked up his rifle and returned to the bank.
He sat down, began to smoke and issued threats to the bank employees. While live-streaming his actions on his Facebook page, he can be heard saying that he would loot the bank for refusing him a loan.
On receiving information, police reached the bank and apprehended the monk. An investigation has been launched.
