'White fungus' just a normal fungal infection, black fungus more dangerous: Doctors

At a time when states are witnessing a rise in black fungus (mucormycosis) cases, a disease primarily affecting immunocompromised Covid-19 patients, reports of another fungal infection, called "white fungus" have caused a stir. However, experts Indiatoday.in spoke to say there is no such disease as "white fungus". The infection that is being reported is nothing but candidiasis, they said. The first reports of white fungus came from Patna, Bihar. However, these cases were dismissed by the government-run Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) as white fungus infection.
