In a put-down of the critics of the Centre’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, Union minister (Retd) General VK Singh said those who have been politically sidelined will seize any opportunity to score political points.
Speaking to India Today as he flagged off a Delhi-Lucknow run under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Gen VK Singh said, “There is no dearth of people questioning this campaign. This mentality should be abandoned for unity in the interest of the country.”
Asked about political parties boycotting the Tiranga yatra, he said, “When some people get sidelined in politics, they try to create ruckus to attract people's attention. But there is a right time and place for politics.”
He said the government’s efforts to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence had instilled pride and patriotism in the people and inspired the youth. However, he claimed that parties who oppose were hurting the unity in the country.
“This is the reason why the country suffers. When people see that we are divided into factions, they consider doing mischief. Protest should be done for things which are really worth it. Issues can be resolved through dialogue,” Singh said.
