
West Bengal CID seizes 120 kg of cannabis, arrests two

The West Bengal CID on Tuesday seized 120 kg of cannabis and arrested two people for allegedly smuggling narcotic substances.
The West Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID) sleuths seized 120 kg of cannabis on Tuesday afternoon.
Based on credible information, the CID officials intercepted a vehicle on NH 16 near Ankurhati checkpost under Domjur Police Station, and arrested two people-- Sheikh Mamon and Sheikh Jony. Both of the accused are Murshidabad residents.
The team had received information that the accused were transporting contraband illegally.
During the vehicle search, the team found cannabis packets hidden in the trunk, which were then seized by CID officials.
The contraband was being transported from Odisha and was scheduled to be delivered to Karimpur in the Nadia District.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
