Waterlogging, congestion, schools shut as rain lash Delhi, other areas

The weather department had earlier issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Delhi for Saturday as well, cautioning people about moderate rain in most places of the city with heavy showers at a couple of locations.
Several parts of Delhi reported massive traffic snarls on Saturday as rain continued to lash the national capital for the third consecutive day today. Many places continued to remain submerged as the downpour showed no signs of receding.
The Delhi Traffic Police issued advisories for commuters to plan their journey accordingly.
“As per the IMD report, light to moderate intensity rain would occur over Delhi and adjoining areas. Commuters are advised to plan their journey accordingly,” it said in a tweet.
The traffic helpline said it received 16 calls related to jams, three related to waterlogging and five related to trees falling. On Friday, the helpline had received 19 calls regarding traffic congestion, 11 regarding waterlogging and 22 due to fallen trees. While on Thursday, it had received 23 calls related to traffic jams, seven regarding waterlogging and two related to the uprooting of trees from different parts of the national capital.
Commuters on social media said that traffic is heavy in northwest Delhi’s Azadpur area. Some highlighted congestions in the Najafgarh area.

Reports of trees falling came in from the Arvindo Marg near Adhchini red light and near Mahipalpur towards Chhattarpur.
