Thoothukudi city faces ongoing water-logging issues despite efforts by officials to drain stagnant rainwater quickly.
It is three days since rain stopped, but water-logging continues in several residential areas of Thoothukudi city.
This is despite Corporation officials deploying some 100 motor-pumps to pump out stagnant water in different parts of the city.
Minister for Social Welfare Geetha Jeevan on Tuesday inspected the water-logged areas and the efforts taken to drain the rainwater stagnating in Athiparasakthi Nagar, ESI Hospital premises, Postal and Telegram Colony and Kathivel Nagar.
She asked officials to press additional motors to drain the rainwater expeditiously.
Mayor P. Jegan also inspected areas such as Dhansekaran Nagar, Kurinji Nagar, Rahmath Nagar, New Sungar Nagar, E.B. Colony and Millerpuram.
The Mayor had earlier said that low-lying vacant plots were the major reason for water-logging, which was putting residents to lot of inconvenience.
The Corporation had already identified such areas and had asked the plot owners to fill up their land to prevent water stagnation.
