
Water graves: Over 1,500 Indians lost lives to floods every year in last decade

Over 1,500 Indians died as a result of floods every year between 2011 and 2020, as per the international disasters database.
Nearly 100 lives have already been lost in floods that jolted Uttarakhand and Kerala this week in what is reminiscent of two most devastating floods India has witnessed lately 2013 (Kedarnath) and 2018 (Kerala). While floods in India are not a rare event, the tyranny has only increased in the last decade.
On an average, over 1,500 Indians have lost their lives to floods every year between 2011 and 2020. In the previous decade, the average was a little over 1,200, according to “the international disasters database: EM-DAT”.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
