West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that social activist Anis Khan was helping her party. However, Khan's family has refuted the claim.

The family of student leader Anis Khan has refuted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s claim that she was in constant touch with Anis.

Mamata Banerjee, during a press conference, claimed that Anis was in touch with the Trinamool Congress and had helped the party. Anis’s family, however, said that he was never involved with the TMC.

Anis’s niece Muskan Khatun said: “My uncle had nothing to do with the TMC. I don't know why the chief minister made the claim. As far as I know, mama had no contact with the TMC. We can't even go to meet the chief minister now.

Anis Khan was allegedly thrown off his building’s roof in Amta, Howrah, on February 18. Anis Khan, a social activist, was also involved in the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act movement. Salman Khan, Anis's father said, "Four men came to our house on Friday around 1 am. One of them was in police uniform and had a gun in his hand. They took him to the roof and threw Anis from there."

The Calcutta High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the alleged murder and directed the state lawyer, Amitesh Banerjee, to take comprehensive instructions from the state administration. The case will be heard on February 24. The West Bengal government has formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the death of Anis Khan.
