
Virudhunagar gang rape case transferred to crime branch, MK Stalin says justice will be served at earliest

Eight people were arrested for the gang rape of a 22-year-old dalit woman in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar, including DMK Youth Wing Cadres and minor school boys. The case has been transferred to the CBCID, said CM MK Stalin on Wednesday. He assured that the culprits would be given maximum punishment.
The shocking gang rape case in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar, that came to light on Tuesday, March 22, has been transferred to the Crime-Branch Crime Investigation Department (CBCID). Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin made the announcement in the State Assembly on Wednesday.
"Unlike the Pollachi incident, justice will be served at the earliest", said CM Stalin. He assured that the culprits would be given maximum punishment.
A 22-year-old dalit woman in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar was subjected to sexual assault by eight people, including school students, who had threatened to publicise intimate videos of her.
They blackmailed and sexually abused her for almost six months before police arrested them on Tuesday, March 22.
The victim was approached by one of the accused, Hariharan, who pretended to be in love with her. He took her to a warehouse, sexually abused her and recorded the incident on his mobile.
Hariharan had shared the video with Praveen, Junaid Ahmed and four school students between the ages of 15 to 16. Hariharan and Junaid were DMK Youth Wing cadres. Their membership in the DMK was suspended following their arrest.
All seven accused had threatened the survivor several times claiming that they would release the video on social media. Under this blackmail threat, they sexually assaulted her multiple times in the course of six months.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
