People residing near Arittapatti biodiversity heritage site near Melur in the district on Friday intervened and stopped a film shooting after they heard a loud noise resembling a bomb blast near one of the hillocks.
The villagers alleged that one of the farmers of the area who first heard a loud noise while farming panicked and informed the villagers of it. The villagers, who rushed to the spot, saw about 20 to 30 vehicles, including caravans, cranes and cars parked in the area. Also, they said, they saw people at the shooting spot carrying petrol-filled cans.
They said, “As people were already in fear of plausible destructions that the area is about to witness due to any developmental projects, they got nervous after hearing the strange sound from the hillocks.”
Selvaraj, one of the residents of the area, said when they asked the film crew whether they had got any order from the police permitting the shooting, they refused to produce the order, claiming that they had already sought permission from the office of the Superintendent of Police.
Owing to the confusion over the permission order, the villagers alerted the police to the loud noise that they heard from the film shooting spot.
A police officer from Othakadai police station, who visited the spot, said the crew had sought permission for film shooting through a request letter from the higher office, but the letter was yet to reach their hands.
“Only when we get their request, we can provide them a letter allowing them to shoot the film there,” he added.

The heat of the recently concluded local body elections spilled over into the first meeting of the newly elected council of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, as the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) questioned the propriety of the 20 councillors to whom the Kerala High Court had issued a notice regarding their oaths, participating in the council.
