Central Armed Police Forces veterinary officer, DIG Sudhakar Natarajan has been awarded the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMMS). The senior Indo-Tibetan Border Police officer is often called the 'Malinios Man' of the country, who trained and deployed the first batch of Malinois K9 in the counter-insurgency grid more than a decade ago.His veterinary command over the past 30 years, included looking after ponies and mules and providing pivotal logistic support to the ITBP troops deployed at BOPs (border out posts) along the LAC (Line of Actual Control).
Sudhakar, the 'K9 Horse Whisperer of the nation', was instrumental in the paradigm shift in deploying locally bred high altitude ponies and mules at ITBP BOPs in place of Saharanpur-bred equines. This strategy has given a fillip to the logistics efforts of ITBP since these local ponies and mules are more physiologically adapted to the inclement rarified conditions of the deployment of this crack mountain combat force.ALSO READ: All-weather border outposts: After Ladakh project failure, ITBP looks for new agency to complete pending work
