
Veteran Kerala CPIM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan dies at 68

A five-time MLA from Thalassery in Kannur, Kodiyari Balakrishnan served as the Home Minister of Kerala in VS Achuthanandan’s cabinet from 2006 to 2011.
Veteran CPIM leader and former state secretary of the party Kodiyeri Balakrishnan died in Chennai today. He was 68.
The senior politician was undergoing treatment for cancer.
A five-time MLA from Thalassery in Kannur, Kodiyari Balakrishnan served as the Home Minister of Kerala in VS Achuthanandan’s cabinet from 2006 to 2011.
Kodiyeri played a major role in leading the CPIM to a second term in 2021. He stepped down due to his failing health recently as the secretary of the Kerala CPM’s state committee from 2015 to 2022.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
