State police in Vermont are investigating after a woman was found dead on a popular trail in Castleton.
The Vermont State Police called the death "suspicious" in a news release and said that they received a call about a deceased woman on the Delaware and Hudson Rail Trail on Thursday afternoon. Police arrived around 4:30 p.m., where they found the unidentified woman dead. Her cause of death will be determined by an autopsy, police said.
A witness said that they heard gunshots and saw a "possible suspect" walking northbound on the trail, police said.
