
Uttarakhand govt modifies SOP for Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. Here are new guidelines

The updated Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) comes into effect from April 1. A negative RT-PCR test report has been made mandatory for all those travelling to Uttarakhand.
Amid a surge in coronavirus cases, the Uttarakhand government on Thursday issued the new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to contain the spread of the virus during Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. Kumbh Mela, the duration of which was curtailed by the Uttarakhand government to just one month for the first time in its history in view of a surge in Covid-19, began on Thursday (April 1). The congregation on the banks of the Ganges in Haridwar will conclude on April 30 with three "shahi snan" (major bathing) dates on April 12, 14 and 27.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
