The Manipuri court in Uttar Pradesh granted bail to Umakant Yadav, who was accused of orchestrating an attack on SP Singh Baghel’s convoy last month.
After spending over a fortnight in jail for allegedly orchestrating a 'deadly attack' on BJP candidate from Karhal seat of Mainpuri SP Singh Baghel, the prime accused Umakant Yadav was granted bail by the Mainpuri court today.
Union Minister of State SP Singh Baghel’s convoy was attacked while he was campaigning for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Following the attack, Baghel had lodged an FIR accusing SP supporters Umakant Yadav and Vinod Yadav of attacking him. Akhilesh Yadav had refuted the allegations, saying that it was politically motivated to defame the Samajwadi Party's electoral campaign.

Based on this FIR, the police had arrested Umakant Yadav.
Umakant Yadav applied for bail in the district judge's court. His lawyer, Subhashchand Yadav, called the FIR politically motivated.
